Today I rolled out of bed before the sun (5:45 am) in preparation to serve my civic duty.
7 AM THOUGHTS
* I’m glad I brought my summons, that wasn’t an instruction.
* Wow. I can’t follow simple instructions. Did those people know they needed to fill out that form prior to arrival?
* These seats are really small and uncomfortable.
8AM THOUGHTS
* I am so old, the kid next to me is only 19. Wow. When did I become the crypt-keeper?
* This video is very patriotic. It might have also been created in the 80s.
* This tea is pretty gross.
* Is that how you say my judge’s name?
* I dislike being referred to by a number.
* Oh lookie. We’re being moved. I wish I could take the stairs.
* Ugh, that tea is making me queasy.
* The view up here is beautiful.
* I’m going to sit on the floor. Oh look, the other young people are following my example.
11 AM THOUGHTS
* Yay, finally into the courtroom!
* Oh neat, the judge went to Mercer too. We’re going to do the trial today? Neat!
* Oh, there are only going to be women on this panel— hmm.
* Lunch time!
* This food is delicious. It’s as if I were eating pizza and salad in a park.
1 PM THOUGHTS
* Theres a couple sitting near me who keep exchanging kiss-fueled “I love yous” and intermittently speaking in Spanish. Is PDA acceptable again? Should there not be some HR thing preventing my exposure to this?
* am I in the right area? Am I going to cause a hold up?
* oh no, the other jurors ate lunch together and now I’ll be the odd person out. (Keep in mind that they’re all 50+ y/o women)
~COURT ROOM DRAMA~
* Oh neat! I get a notebook.
* Oh, I don’t get to keep it. Bummer.
~RECESS~
* Wow, these ladies are alcoholics.
~COURT ROOM DRAMA~
* The defense needs to work on their public speaking skills.
~ DELIBERATION~
* Ugh, being the youngest and most liberal and the only person seemingly capable of critical thinking is frustrating.
* I dislike this part of the process.
* I get to go to the Dulceria!
* Thank God for pastries.
